The Brewster family’s story in the Bow Valley begins in the late 1800s, when John Brewster established a homestead at Kananaskis Ranch, set beneath the iconic slopes of Mount Yamnuska.

What began as a frontier settlement became something far more enduring — a place shaped by landscape, resilience, and a deep connection to the land. As one of the first freehold homesteads outside Banff National Park, the ranch stands as a rare and lasting piece of Alberta’s early western history.

For six generations, the Brewster family has lived, worked, and gathered at Kananaskis Ranch — each generation leaving its mark while preserving what came before.

The ranch has long been defined not just by its setting, but by its spirit — one of quiet hospitality, western tradition, and a way of life shaped by the rhythms of the Rockies.

From early ranching operations to welcoming guests from across North America, the land has always been a place where people come to experience something real — a slower pace, a deeper connection, and the enduring character of the Canadian West.

That legacy continues today.

Today, the Brewster family is proud to carry the ranch into its next generation.

Working alongside leading Bow Valley developers, Janet Brewster-Stanton has helped shape an exclusive residential community set along the Bow River. Every decision has been guided by the landscape, preserving open sightlines, protecting the character of the ranch, and celebrating the natural beauty that has always defined it.

Brewster Ranch Estates offers a rare opportunity to live within one of Alberta's most historic ranches and become part of a place that has been cherished for more than a century.
